Onion pakora or onion pakoda is a delicious South Indian snack made with onions, gram flour, spices, and herbs. It's a super delicious, addictive, and perfect evening snack with tea or coffee.

Serves - 3
Ingredients -
• 400 grams of onion
• 3 chilies (finely chopped)
• few curry leaves (chopped)
• 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro (finely chopped)
• 1 teaspoon of chili powder
• ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder
• ¼ teaspoon of ground cumin
• ¼ teaspoon of ajwain (carom seeds)
• 1 teaspoon of ginger paste
• ¾ teaspoon of salt
• 1½ cups besan/gram flour
• ¼ cup rice flour
• Oil for frying)
INSTRUCTIONS -
How to make onion pakoda:
• First, thinly slice the onions. Make sure to cut them into slices of uniform thickness, as this helps them fry more easily.
• Transfer the sliced onion to a large bowl.
• Add 3 chilies (finely chopped), a few curry leaves, 2 tbsp coriander, 1 tsp chili powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, ¼ tsp cumin powder, ¼ tsp ajwain (carom seeds), 1 tsp ginger paste, and ¾ tsp salt.
• Squeeze and mix well, making sure all the spices are well combined and the onions release moisture.
• Also add 1½ cups of chickpea flour, ¼ cup of rice flour and mix well.
• Squeeze and add a little water to mix if necessary.
• The onion water is enough to form the dough. Add more gram flour if necessary.
• Now place the dough in hot oil forming a random shape.
• Fry over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Stir in between for even frying.
• Fry until the pakoda is golden brown and crispy.
• Finally, drain the pakoda and serve with mint chutney or any sauce and then enjoy with hot tea.
