Description - Karwa Chauth is one of the most important festivals for married women in India. Although this holiday is celebrated nationwide, it is particularly significant in the northern states. Women celebrate Karwa Chauth Vrat to pray for their husbands' longevity and happiness. The festival signifies the importance of the bond of love.
The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon day or Purnima of the Kartika month according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar. At night, the women gather and listen to Karwa Chauth Katha and perform puja. After catching a glimpse of the moon through a Karwa Chauth Channi, or sieve, at night, they break their fast.
