Tukmaria (Ocimum basilicum) seeds are also known as tukham malanga. They are sacred seeds in many Asian countries for their exceptional qualities.
They look like sesame seeds but are black. The type you usually eat comes from sweet basil, Ocimum basilicum, which is the plant commonly used to season food. For this reason, the seeds are typically known as sweet basil seeds. They also have many other names, including sabja seeds and tukmaria.
