Description -

Eastern Appam Podi Powder (1kg) is a ready-to-use rice flour blend, ideal for preparing traditional South Indian appams—soft pancakes with crispy edges typical of Kerala cuisine.

  • Ingredients : Finely ground rice flour.

  • Texture and flavor : Fluffy center with golden and crispy edges, just like traditional homemade appams.

  • Nutrition : Source of carbohydrates, dietary fiber and essential minerals.

  • Practicality : It allows you to prepare appams easily without any hassle or need to grind rice at home.

Traditional Mode of Use -

1. Prepare the base (starter) :

  • Mix 4–5 teaspoons of Eastern Appam Podi with ¼ cup of water.

  • Boil until you get a thick paste.

2. Grind the additional ingredients :

  • Grind ½ coconut with a pinch of cumin and 1–2 small onions into a fine paste.

3. Mix and ferment :

  • In a large bowl, mix ½ kg of Eastern Appam Podi with the cooked pasta and coconut mixture.

  • Add 5–6 glasses of water and a pinch of yeast.

  • Stir well and let ferment for 10–12 hours, covered.

4. Cook the appams :

  • Add salt to taste.

  • Pour a ladleful of batter into an appam pan, swirl the pan to distribute, and cook until the edges are crispy and the center is cooked.

The fermented dough can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
