Description: Ponni rice is a white rice very popular in South India, especially in the Tamil Nadu region. Ponni rice is very fluffy, soft, delicious, and is perfect for rice bowls, thali (Indian-style lunch or dinner served with rice and curry), etc.
Ponni rice is a variety of rice grown in southern India. Ponni literally means gold in Tamil and also refers to the Kaveri River.
Ponni boiled rice cooks a firmer, less sticky rice dish than regular white rice.
How to use and cook -
It is used to make preparations like Kichadi, which is called Ven Pongal and is generally served with coconut chutney and sambhar.
Soak rice for 30-45 minutes before cooking. It is not recommended to clean rice after soaking.
Nutritional values:
Unlike brown and white rice, the process of boiling ponni rice begins before the hull is removed. Because of this special processing of the rice, boiled ponni rice is a better source of fiber, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B-6 than regular white rice.
Since boiled ponni rice is low in fiber, it is suitable for children and soothing to the digestive system.
